I'm a Goldwater Conservative, what's that mean?

"When you say "radical right" today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye."
-Barry Goldwater

“Remember that a government big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take away everything you have.”
-Barry Goldwater

“The rights that we have under the Constitution covers anything we want to do, as long as its not harmful. I can't see any way in the world that being a gay can cause damage to somebody else,”
-Barry Goldwater

As you can see from the quotes above, Mr. Conservative would have been considered a liberal by today's standards...but that's just because somewhere along the line a lie was created that stated that if you want to be a conservative, you have to be religous. This is simply not true!

Whenever I debate policy with liberals, they inevitably bring up issues that are of great import to social conservatives, but really have nothing to do with my oppinions. I feel that anyone should be able to marry anyone, and that discrimination in any form is the antithesis of what a true conservative should believe in. Goldwater Conservatives, or Libertarian Conservatives do not believe that issues such as gay marriage and abortion belong on the party platform for either side, nor do they belong in federal politics.

Goldwater took on many positions that were against the grain in Conservative circles, but no one can argue that his core beliefs are what have driven this country since 1980. Less invasive federal government, less entitlements, less taxes, strong military, less regulation, and more individual freedom. Goldwater was the original straight talk express, and though I don't agree with him on everything, I encourage folks to learn more about him.
